Description
This is volume 1 of 10 in Author Mike Sheridan's book series “The World of the Pudge Pucketts”.
It is a fictional children's story.
The story revolves around the lives of those occupying “Bozzle Island”, a very small island in the South Pacific.
The occupants are weird and wonderful, with humans and animals living and working together to support each other.
The first book in the series provides the readers with a thorough understanding of the island and its characters and sets the scene for progression in the series.
Adventure is a very important part of the book.
There is a comet called “the silent light” heading towards earth and the island that is of serious concern to the inhabitants.
There are also nasty pirates trying to invade the island to take away its riches who are also of concern to the inhabitants.
By far though, the most important aspect of the book surrounds the involvement of the island's schoolteacher, “Miss Sue Narmi”, and the “life lessons” she and her learned companions pass on to all the children that live on the island.
Author Mike Sheridan, has been able to structure the book in a manner where grandparents, parents, guardians and teachers reading the book together, are able to contemplate the life and personal lessons provided to the children in the book by the island teachers and mentors.
This provides connection not normally available in a children's book between elders and the young.
After each chapter, those reading to the children are able to pause with the child and consider the lessons on offer creating a valuable connection between the child and themselves.
It provides an insight into the thought process of the child and their uptake in terms of the messages on offer.
This insight is invaluable.
It can help find shortfalls in the child's comprehension, give an insight into perception and open dialogue in a manner that connects the old and the young in ways not available through simple day-to-day communication.
In today's world, we are time poor.
